(Day 137) Morning beauty

I had a few minutes this morning to make a couple of photos, and another few minutes this evening to post. It's wonderful to be in a place where these beauties grow outdoors, naturally. At home hibiscus can only be grown indoors. And yes, I made this photo :)

I agree with joey ...

Love the colors and the composition with the river in the background out of focus enough to keep the eye back on the flower, but still recognizable. Nice job!

The grows outdoors in Sierra Leone, Africa.

I used to pluck it and suck the sugar at the back of the flower. Don't know if its poisonous or not, but I'm still alive.

Good shot!

@Scott - thank you Scott. I had just enough time to admire this hibiscus hedge and make a photo before I had to leave.

@M. Hassan - they look so beautiful where they grow naturally! The nectar must have been ok for you (no cavities, right ?). Thanks M.

Nectar was good, but no teeth left ;)

Beautiful, Rick! I LOVE hibiscus. They are actually quite hardy - the one in my office survived a whole weekend at -20C, with the window open. The hibiscus sits about 8 inches from the window. We now call it "the plant that could not be killed by conventional means." ;o) Hope you are having a great Sunday!

@Krista - it still amazes me when I find 'exotic' plants just growing outdoors! :) Wow, I never realized hibiscus could be THAT hardy! I wonder how cold it would have to be before you did it in - maybe try planting it outdoors - who knows ... ? ;-)
