(Day 208) A bad hair day

Tues. July 27, 2010

There's a long story behind today's late post - suffice to say it starts with a very early morning plane trip. However, the 365 police might come down heavily on me if I fail to meet today's goal of making and posting (at least) one photo.

So the first goal of making photos today was easily passed. I met this little fellow on the screen of the pool enclosure. I'd never seen a caterpillar with such a unique hair-do - all I know is my mother would never have let me out of the house with hair like that ! And have you ever seen a caterpillar up on its hind legs ?  Look at the second photo and you can clearly see that he's got his hind legs firmly planted as he's railing against whatever upsets caterpillars.

I think that the third photo perhaps explains why he was so upset that he had to raise several legs up in the air in exasperation - obviously all the static in the air was causing his bad hair day.

(By the way, that third photo is the first time I've caught a good lightning strike - something which I find easier here in Florida where they are in abundance).

Since I've only had a few catnaps over the past 36 hours, you'll excuse me if I come visit your blog over the next few days, after some shut-eye.

Cool cat.!! ; )
And congrats on the lightning strike! Welcome to the club!
I know very well that lightning in Florida, is very abundant, and can be unexpected.

What part of Florida, if I may ask?

A punky looking caterpillar ... very funny looking, he certainly makes a very unusual model indeed. You did a great job capturing him Rick. I love the lightening shot, I have never had much success with capturing lightening...not yet anyway.

@chasity - I've been trying for a long time - this one seemed to flash for 5 seconds which is probably why I managed to capture it. Thanks chasity - and good luck.

ps - don't try to capture it from under a tree!

@Photog Ave - thanks Avery - it's been a long time coming.

Cape Coral, where right now thunderstorms seem to appear around 4:00 pm each day and last for 2-3 hours!

@Biana - dankjewel ! I thought his hair looked like bristles on a stiff broom. O, ik heb heerlijk geslapen.

@Katherine - thanks Katherine - I found him quite unusual too. I think you have to be quite lucky to capture lightning, especially during the day. I think at night, if you're where it's quite dark, you could probably keep your shutter open until you caught a strike (on camera, that is) - good luck!

@Ruth's Photo Blog - LOL, it does that and a WHOLE lot more ! Thanks for stopping by Ruth.

Funny looking critter and awesome capture of it.

Love the lightening photo, very well done Rick. See you sometime next week... don't call the P365 police and tell them I'm MIA okay, just moving and will be without the net until they can get me some service happening, Tues. I do believe.

Have a fantastic weekend.

@darlin - thank you! Your secret's safe with me - I'll hold them off with my Canon! LOL

Hope your move goes well - have a great weekend and we'll hear from you when you get reconnected.

"he's railing against whatever upsets caterpillars."

LMAO@this. Great photos! I LOVE caterpillars and lightening too so this is a bonus post for me. :o)

@Krista - yeah but he really looked upset ;-)

This guy was lucky I didn't find him in the garden; at home he might have made the blog, but then I'd have turned him into compost. No exceptions. Even if you're cute.

Thanks Krista.
