(Day 219) A discovery

Back at home in Ontario, Canada, I'm fairly certain which plants I'd consider weeds and therefore undesirables in either the flower or veggie garden. Here in the subtropics I'm not so sure at all. I can spot the (non-ornamental) grass and try to remove it from the flower beds, but there are other plants that look like something you might actually buy and grow.

I've removed some 'viney' things that appear to be crawling over legitimate garden inhabitants, but last week there was a larger one that I wasn't sure about, but which I left. Today I walked around again and now I'm glad I left it alone - it's flowering nicely. I googled it and I discovered that it's actually a bougainvillea! I also discovered that its sap can cause skin rashes similar to what poison ivy and poison oak cause, and I'm familiar with those. Glad I made this discovery the easy way by reading about it and not by experiencing it !

Lovely... Brazilians call the Bougainvillea, Primavera ou Maravilha.

Kisses.

A Stunning Beauty . Happy to hear of the information. The butterfly house I visit in Alberta here is full of this plant. I know now not to touch it.
Great to see your settings. I have a 60mm Canon.

I have a 60mm and, therefore, I should be able to accomplish a photo like this...right? This is quite beautiful!

@teca - you are lucky - they are native there; do people still see their beauty or do they look 'ordinary' ?

Beijos !!

@Lisa RedWillow - thank you Lisa; I really like my 60mm for macro work although it's also great for portraits !

@Carolyn Ford - thank you Carolyn; yes - you should be able to do better than this; the light wasn't great and I don't have my tripod here - I used a picnic cooler to steady my hands on since I used a small aperture to get detail and used a slower shutter speed to get the exposure. I really like the 60mm for macro and it's good at f2.8 too.

Rick I like this flower, good thing you looked it up before touching it, OUCH! Another wonderful photo, the flower is very crisp and there's just enough blur in the background in my humble opinion. How much longer are you on holiday for?

@CarreraCaballo - thank you Joseph. Glad I didn't 'capture' it with my hands - would have been trouble !

@Ruth's Photo Blog - it's pretty enough to be staying put; I'll just contend with what I know to be weeds and see what becomes of the others. Thanks Ruth - have a wonderful week.

@Costea Andrea Mihai - thank you Costea. A good week to you too.

One thing is for sure - Another flower photo that you MUST print and hang on some wall of yours :-)

@CarreraCaballo - thank you Joseph; actually I have just received most of an order of photos that I had printed and framed - am busy hanging them now. This one will need to wait till the next order :)

That bougainvillea is just gorgeous. The only ones I've seen are in California and they were more like little ruffly climbing roses. Not sure if that's a decent description - ha!! How interesting that they're toxic. Never knew that but it'll be something to tuck in the back of the mind for future reference!

@CherylK - thanks Cheryl; I've seen them in Hawaii too and they were beautiful. I'll be sure to keep my hands off them or wear gloves :)

Rick, I'm sorry to have missed the question.
Here we all find this a wonderful plant.
Although common in Brasil, it is much appreciated. They exist in various colors and hues.
Have a beautiful week, dear.
Love and kisses with lots of flowers. ;)
