(Day 237) The tranquil Rideau

I was drawn today to another part of the Rideau system, back to a place where one of my daughters and I had gone fishing a couple of years ago. There's a dam here, used to control spring floods, and a lock for recreational boaters, which is used to bypass the 2.8m/9' height differential in the river. I had the area almost to myself, save for 2 local lads who were alternating between fishing and jumping 5m/15' off a small bridge into the cool waters below.

Note: all photos were shot at f11, ISO200 at varying shutter speeds with a 10-22mm or 70-200mm lens.

buoys act as a warning to boaters of the dam ahead

this scow is used for maintenance on the waterway e.g. to place buoys

Such a peaceful looking place Brian. Great reflections captured in the still of the water..just like a mirror.
Lovely photos! I hope you've been well...haven't been able to visit BLOG much of late...it seems that life has become overwhelmingly busy but when I get a chance I will always pop on by.
Cheers K

What a wonderful spot, sounds as though the boys were creating some fond memories to chat about when they're older. Magnificent photos as usual, no favorites tonight... they're all stunning!

@Katherine - ok Katherine, just for this post I'll pretend to be Brian (who is Brian, anyway ?). I can tell that you're really busy! ;-)

But thank you Katherine for taking time to come by and leave a comment. Hopefully you're getting back on top of things and have time to get out and enjoy your photography.

Have a great weekend !

@darlin - they reminded me of my young(er) days - spending all day at the creek just having fun with friends - a carefree summer! Those are some of the fond memories I have.

Thanks for dropping by Darlene - have a great Friday!

OMG I am so sorry .. What a goose!! I don't think I will ever truly get back on top of things Rick...just what I think I'm there, something else get thrown my way, but that's OK!

@Chad - thanks Chad; there are so many beautiful spots along this waterway, but then you can find beauty wherever you live as long as you look with 'open' eyes.

@Katherine - LOL (a goose !) - last word that would have crossed my mind! Absolutely no offence taken Katherine - I read your first comment with a smile.

Hopefully life will slow down a bit for you soon or you'll catch up to it. Chin up!

What a gorgeous area! I love the last shot, with the varying levels. Great work!

@Krista - it is a really nice area just to walk around or sit for a while; the weir can be dangerous though if you get trapped in the waterfalls.

Thanks for stopping by, and all your comments Krista - and have a great week!
