New addition arrives safely

With not a little anticipation, a nervous watch was kept for the safe delivery of the new arrival. Its progress had been tracked for several days and all the signs looked good. However, one can never be over-confident that all would go as expected. The hours on the promised delivery day ticked by until just near the end of day, the highly-valued addition was delivered. Weighing in at 8lb 10oz, it was carefully removed from its protective shield. At first it appeared a little non-descript:

Eyeing it from a different angle shed a little more light on the markings on the new arrival:

And a little more light revealed further, more colourful, hints of its pedigree, although its identity was still somewhat hidden:

Not until it was examined closely under better light was it fully identified:

Yes, fellow photogs, I have taken the plunge into the world of full-frame sensors, thanks to generou$ contributions from my daughters, son, and wife. What lies ahead is wading through a 404 page manual and taking time to learn the many features of this wonderful piece of technology (yes, I've already jumped ahead and made some photos with it, blissfully unaware of how its focus system operates). All in good time.

And while I've dabbled with shooting in RAW, I've made a commitment to myself to try to make that my default starting now. Several new software programs accompanied the camera so the learning curve appears more like a hill right now. Acquiring and learning Photoshop will need to be relegated to the back burner for some time.

In the meantime, you'll likely catch me cradling the new arrival very carefully until the confidence factor increases.

Ohhhhh NOOOOO I could tell it was the 5D Mark III in a flash at the first pic. Can't fool me my friend.
AND I AM JELOUS big time. But truely you've got yourself a wonderful gift Rick and I hope you will enjoy every single bit of it.

Now about your wife. You better send here over here so I can pamper her. Because the days are over that she will be seeing much of you. Maybe just when your in the need of a snack or two but otherwise you're be only to found at the manual of our camera, the computer to edit and wearing a face with a big black 'thing' in front of it.

HAHAHA. Good luck Rick by giving it a go.
Oh and by the way if it doesn't come to your satisfaction I'm here to take it out of your hands. ;-)
Heel heel heel veel plezier ermee het is mijn grootste wens om ooit in bezit te hebben. Dus geniet dubble en dwars van je kado je verdient het.
Liefs en knuffles Dagmar

I bet you are happy with such a camera!
Great stuff!
I am with Nikon, so I can only guess it is the equivalent of D800 but without the 36 m px.
Excellent quality, I believe!

MINUS 43°C... I would have died loooooong before!! LOL!
Keep well, Rick!

Congratulation on the safe arrival of your new camera Rick! Wow. I've never heard of that kind of camera and it sounds way too complicated for me to learn. I know you will have fun reading and studying the manual and will look forward to seeing the first pictures you take with it. Have fun! Pam

Rick this is fantastic, congrats on your purchase and we'll see you in a few weeks once you get the confidence level up and read the manual! I'm looking forward to seeing what this baby does, you were shooting such phenomenal photos with your other camera, I'm curious what you're going to do with this one!

Happy shooting my friend! I did get your comment on my blog, thank you for visiting; it's always fantastic to hear from you. I'm so tired tonight after the weekend away that I'll have to get back to you when I'm a wee bit more awake.

Have a wonderful week!

But the real question is how were these photos taken? Kidding! Congratulations on your new photo baby, and yes it must be daunting to open the manual and wrap your mind around all this new camera can, and will, do. Keep us posted!
