Looking on the bright side

"You know it's going to be a long day when you yell 'Seriously?!?' at your alarm clock." (author unknown)

Ah, the benefits of airline deregulation. When I was young, people flew at a decent time. But now, to get a good airfare, it's the early bird who catches the plane. And so the alarm clock rudely jolted us out of bed, prematurely, so we could get our daughters to the airport by 04:00 am (!!) for a 06:00 am flight. It was early, but on the bright side there was no traffic (everyone else had wisely chosen to stay in bed) - the usual 45 minute trip was done in under 25.

There was another bright side to this equation. I'm rarely up to witness a sunrise but since I'd already paid the price, I was treated to the following, which in my estimation was adequate compensation.

I hear tell that there are actually people who like to get up early, I think its a myth, nobody like to get up that early!!!
I was at the airport today too, to pick up my son at the very decent hour of just after noon from a 3 hour flight:)

More than adequate compensation, making the most of the opportunity. You have some great shots here!

Great colours and brightness in the second shot Rick! You always capture beautiful sunrises. :)

Two years ago I had an early flight to Chile I arrived at the airport by 5:00 am for check in, it was the first week of daylight saving time, (I slept less than 2 hours) and my flight delayed 2 hours... :(

Rick, its a beautiful morning, congrats on the super shots.

Couple of years ago, we were on a cruise around Norway, that 1st morning I was on the deck at 5am and it was fantastic.

Rick, I am going to say that getting up this early was well worth it. The images you captured are just gorgeous.
I hope your trip was a good one (other than the early rising!!).

Look at the beauty you would have missed by staying in bed,but 4 AM is too early for me too.

Beautiful sunrise photos Rick. I'll be up at 4:00 on Thursday to catch my 5:30 flight to Toronto then on to Calgary and Fort Mac. I'm not looking forward to that early wake up and I won't see the sunrise either. It'll be behind me. :)
