Subtropical Sunset Sunday

As I've said in previous sunset posts, descriptive words are entirely superfluous when accompanied by a sunset photo. I spent a couple of hours at the waterfront a few evenings ago transfixed as the evening sunset ritual unfolded. There's something about the thunderstorm cloud formations and perhaps humidity and warmth in the tropics that have a magical effect on light. Here are two views taken about 30 minutes apart.

Thunderstorms and water, just the right formula for a perfect sunset.

Rick I'm a wee bit jealous right about now... just a wee bit though but wait til the middle of winter, then I'll be a whole lot jealous! lol Your shots are breathtaking, the scenery is astounding and it's amazing how much the sunset can change in half an hour!

Have a fantastic week!

Wonderful images of the sunset. Amazing how the colors can change so. I get the same effects down in the Salton Sea when there in the winter. Right now here at the ranch it is just clear blue sky everyday. Looks like your are really enjoying the heat down there. Have a wonderful week.

B-B-Beautiful Rick! Relax & Enjoy ... being in such gorgeous surrounding makes it easy. It is remarkable how much the colours in the sky changes in such a short window of time.

I'd love to have a chance at some sub-tropical sunsets sometime and I understand the sunrises may be even better. Nice job on these as always and thanks for playing along with Sunset Sunday.

Gorgeous photos! There really is nothing like the beauty of a sunset over the water.

I see that you're interested in pictures of Britain! I thought you might like my blog, www.PictureBritain.com. It's a journey in pictures from the Shetland Islands to Land's End, along with videos, recipes, and interesting tidbits of life in Great Britain!

Great Header Photo and also the two sunset pictures. All are wonderful! Having just spent a few days taking some sunset shots from the mountain perspective, I agree, words are just insufficient. It is amazing to watch the minute by minute transition when all the parts are at play.

Absolutely, Elizabeth - and especially down here where the storms are frequent in summer.

Thanks Michelle - it truly is !

LOL - with all this heat and humidity (and threat of hurricane) there's nothing to be jealous about, Darlene ! Now, when it's -40 in Edmonton, you might have a point ;-) I hope your week is off to a good start !

Hi Carrie - I'll have to have a look at your Salton Sea sunsets. Thank you - we sure are enjoying it here - wouldn't be quite as fun though if you had to do real work here ;-)

Hi Katherine, and thank you; yes, we watched another sunset last night by the coast and the colour changes are simply amazing.

Marty - 't is good for the soul to be able to watch the sun set after the day's work is done. Few things surpass that experience. Merci and may the sun also cascade its warm bisous upon you !

Thank you, Scott - perhaps I'll rearrange my waking hours when we're back here again and I'll try for a sunrise (that's singular - can't promise more than that).

Thank you kindly, Ruth !

Hi Abby - thanks for dropping by, and your nice comments. Yes, GB is a place I've yet to visit so I have to do it vicariously via others' blogs. Went off to visit yours - very interesting ! Hope to see you again.

Thank you, Fábio !

Obrigado, Soraia !

Thank you, Carolyn - I too was awestruck.

Thank you, Randy. I'll have to pop over (while I'm enjoying good internet speeds) and have a look at your shots. Yes, sunsets are fascinating - I never tire of them !

Hi again Rick, hurricanes... ya no thank you! I'll stay right where I'm at and freeze my butt off come winter... speaking of which, I was at Home Depot today (go figure) and they have the snowblowers out, sheesh let us enjoy our last week or two of summer already without the reminders please!

What are the winters like in Florida for hurricanes?

I've been meaning to ask you, all the photos in your slideshow at the bottom of your blog, these are all yours now aren't they? There's sure some "WOW" ones on there, some which I haven't seen before and if I had the time in my crazy busy life I'd take time to watch it all.

K 'nuf from me for one night, I keep meaning to write an essay and it's just not happening yet. I'm going to regret this later, for now no worries! lol

Great shots Ryck, however I don't know why -as you say words are just useless on these pictures- if I had to choos I would go for the second, maybe it's more "magical"...

I agree that words really aren't needed when posting a sunset. They speak for themselves. These are beautiful. :)

i agree, the transformation of light and color from one moment to the next, is glorious. (and i feel like i'm right at home when i look at that header photo ;)

Hello beautiful, how is life across the blue pond. Hope your heart is a little lighter and the sun is out more for you since the loss of your beloved brother.

I've missed out on sooooo much. trying to catch up and you had me lol with the story of the cool captain during your flight. I on the other hand can't get enought of a flight like that (even if lightning scares the poop out of me). Bumpy rides are fun, chashing the clouds going up and down. And yea without spilling coffee is the best.

Gladd to hear you are safe and sound and still are enjoying your sunsets. You're pics are getting better and better (noooo not that you had crappy ones before ;-))). just I love them over and over again.
Wonderful hugs and be well Dag

Hi Darlene - we're back in Canada (variable speed internet again :( That's crazy that snowblowers are already out -can't get prepared too soon, right ? Hurricane season ends Nov. 30 so no winter worries. Yep - those are all my photos in the slideshow - a lot from my 365 before I became 'famous' ;-) Hope you got that essay done - you must almost be essayed out ! Enjoy your weekend !

Gracias, Maguisan ! Yes, my favourite too is the 2nd one but I included the first to show how the sky changes so drastically. Thank you for your visit.

Thank you, Nancy !

I thought you'd like that header, Leslie - Florida beaches, with those beautiful cloud formations, are just wonderful.

Rick said...

Hi, and thank you, Stewart ! The nice thing about Florida is that summer hardly ever leaves ! ;-)

I agree, Susan - the camera captures a moment in time, but the blending never seems to stop until it's quite dark.

Thanks so much, Lisa !

Thanks, Saz ! Sunsets are spectacular to begin with, but they seem even more magical in the (sub)tropics. Have a great weekend !

Hi Lisa - thank you for your kind words. I just stand amazed when I'm watching something like this unfold.

Thank you, Cat - they're among my favourite trees (probably because they're only found where there's no snow !).

Gracias por tu visita, Isabel ! Gracias also for your nice comment, and for following. Hope to see you here again. soon.

Hi Dag - so nice to hear from a friend from my old homeland. Life has its good and dark(er) days - thank you for asking. LOL about bumpy rides and what you (almost) do in your pants ;-) I'm a veteran flier and it doesn't really bother me too much either, although it's always nice to get both feet back on the ground. Thanks for your kind words. I must get over to see you. Fijn weekend. Groetjes, Rick
