I've removed some 'viney' things that appear to be crawling over legitimate garden inhabitants, but last week there was a larger one that I wasn't sure about, but which I left. Today I walked around again and now I'm glad I left it alone - it's flowering nicely. I googled it and I discovered that it's actually a bougainvillea! I also discovered that its sap can cause skin rashes similar to what poison ivy and poison oak cause, and I'm familiar with those. Glad I made this discovery the easy way by reading about it and not by experiencing it !

A Stunning Beauty . Happy to hear of the information. The butterfly house I visit in Alberta here is full of this plant. I know now not to touch it.

I have a 60mm and, therefore, I should be able to accomplish a photo like this...right? This is quite beautiful!

@Lisa RedWillow - thank you Lisa; I really like my 60mm for macro work although it's also great for portraits !
@Carolyn Ford - thank you Carolyn; yes - you should be able to do better than this; the light wasn't great and I don't have my tripod here - I used a picnic cooler to steady my hands on since I used a small aperture to get detail and used a slower shutter speed to get the exposure. I really like the 60mm for macro and it's good at f2.8 too.
Rick I like this flower, good thing you looked it up before touching it, OUCH! Another wonderful photo, the flower is very crisp and there's just enough blur in the background in my humble opinion. How much longer are you on holiday for?
I would say its worth leaving, just look at the colour and its beauty Rick.

That bougainvillea is just gorgeous. The only ones I've seen are in California and they were more like little ruffly climbing roses. Not sure if that's a decent description - ha!! How interesting that they're toxic. Never knew that but it'll be something to tuck in the back of the mind for future reference!
