Country evening

Although it missed Florida, we got out of Irene's path and made it back to a more temperate climate this week. Our hopes are that at worst Irene's fury will be spent at sea and that the eastern seaboard will be spared significant damage.

In contrast to the wild images coming out of the Bahamas, Sasha and I went out for a short ride last evening in the tranquility of the countryside near our home.

(Day 238) Farm country

We live in a rural area, about 2 km/1.5 mile outside the nearest village (yes, it has a general store), and about 25 km/15 miles from the nearest town. As with all locations, I suppose, there are pros and cons, and there are people who love living in the countryside and those who don't. A couple of the many things we like about rural living is the spaciousness and lack of traffic. It still takes lots of land to produce the food people need, whether veggies or meat. I took a short ride this afternoon and captured a few images.

(Day 187) No farms, no food, no cities ...

I'm not sure if you've seen signs with this message in your neck of the woods, but there are some in our area. The message is pretty straightforward, just like farm folk are. Since we live in the countryside I thought I'd take a little drive tonight and bring you a few related photos. And I was reminded of a tribute to farmers - have a listen.
