(Day 91) Faded - maybe; forgotten - never!

Many beautiful flower arrangements were sent by thoughtful people in memory of and as a tribute to someone who was close to them in some way. They were a stark contrast to the otherwise drab scene. Perhaps flowers at a funeral symbolize the living.

One arrangement made the long journey home with us. Some of its flowers have started to fade, just as some of our memories will no doubt fade. However, life will go forward and memories of her will always remain.

Thank you again to everyone for their kind words of support.

What a beautiful arrangement Rick. Flowers just might symbolize life. I like the way that people send flowers, especially bright, pretty, vibrant colors, to me this is a way of celebrating someones life, not the end of the life. (Just my thoughts on flowers at services).

I also think the beauty of flowers celebrates ones life at funerals - I'm sure if we google it we can find out the exact origin. :) I just wanted to say that I am very sorry for your loss. Take care.

God has blessed us with memories that often keep the colors brighter than even the original and it usually lets the dark and the drab fade away.

@lisa - I think that's also an excellent point. Thank you for your support.

@Julia - thanks Julia; I used some side lighting to avoid washing out the colour.

@Scott - very wonderful observation Scott. Thank you.

Rick, only when you have time, could you please tell me what you use for side lighting? Do you have special lights or a lamp? This is something new for me and I'd love to try this one day when the books are closed... all but the unopened "Rebel XSi for Dummies" this is.

@darlin - nothing special at all. I use a small MAGLite (uses 2 AA batteries and probably costs $10). I play around with the lighting till I get the effect I want and then take a few shots and bracket the exposure. I usually do this in a dark room.

I would agree with Darlin about colour being symbolic of life. Life is filled with colour!
Colourful birds, flowers, rainbows, lollies, toys, ocean-life etc are decorated with vibrant, glorious colours. It is hard not to feel good when you see these things. These are beautiful flowers Rick! And with regards to the memories of the person whom passed, may I suggest that you record your memories of her & get others who knew her to do the same. Memories can fade but with the assistance of the written word, they can be rekindled!
I am sorry for your loss Rick!

@Katherine - thank you for your kind words, and your comments about colour. Good suggestion about recording memories via the written word. I find that photos will also often rekindle memories.
