(Day 99) Life's not like that

Do you have days where life seems to be nicely lined up ? Things appear to be going smoothly, everything is falling into place - career, relationships, finances ... even the car isn't complaining. Then - wham! Totally unexpected, out of left field - chaos! Your boss gets ugly, your spouse doesn't understand, the car starts making a grinding sound, even the dog gets in on the act by peeing on the carpet.

'They' say adversity builds character, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Maybe so, but most of us will work hard to line our lives up again the way we thought it was, like today's shot. By the way, if you've played pool, or billiards, have you ever broken a rack of balls and have them end up looking like this ? I didn't think so - life's not like that.

No, it certainly isn't. Sometimes I think that's a good thing...well, except when you get peed on. :P
Great shot! I haven't played pool in ages!

@Lisa - thanks. Eventually it would get boring if life was like that (occasionally is ok though :)

What Karen Sees said...

I'm not a pool player, but my Dad was. He was quite old by the time I was born, (and now I'm quite old-ha ha), but my Dad was a young married man during the Great Depression. He also looked very young for his age, and used to hang out at the pool hall after work to earn extra money. After the owner verified that he was indeed over 21 he gave him some fatherly advice, "Son, you shouldn't be here, these players are good and you'll lose all your money." What he didn't realize that it was my Dad who was the hustler, and he made enough money hustling pool to keep them afloat during those years. At one time he got to play Minnesota Fats, and when I was young he used to tell me his escapades at the pool hall. I haven't thought about that for years, but your photo reminded me. Great composition and love the diagonal. You're right about life's fickle ways.

Life most certainly isn't like this wonderful photo. I'm so glad that it isn't, what a dull, boring life that would be. Great compare and contrast Rick... and how long did it take you to set up the balls like this for this shot? ;-)

Rick said...

@imac - thanks. Your secret's safe with me :)

Rick said...

@Karen - thanks for dropping by. What a great story and I'm happy that by coincidence the shot reminded you of some great memories. Life's like that :)

Rick said...

@darlin - thank you. Actually I've been practising getting this line up on the break ever since I started playing pool (during my wasted youth years) and they all finally lined up this way today! ;-)

Fijn weekend.

Great shot & great accompanying post!
Wouldn't it be just dandy if life was perfect like your perfectly lined up billiard balls.
It's more like a juggling act..where you're trying to keep all the balls in the air at the same time. Occasionally some fall but you pick them up & the juggling continues.
Love the way you think Rick!

Rick said...

@Riet - dank u wel. Die gezegdeis "avond rood, mooi weer aan boord". Plezierige weekend.

Rick said...

@Katherine - thank you. I agree re: the juggling act - keeps life interesting, doesn't it.

Very cool shot, Rick! Interesting post (I grew up in a pool hall ... learned early how to dodge leather pockets, wheeling around on my tricycle)!

@Chad - thanks for dropping by, and your comments. My pleasure visiting your blog - I'll be back.

@S.Etole - thanks Susan (and you're right - would be a tough game)
