We have this little shady spot just behind the house and beside the deck. It seems well-suited for ferns and moss to thrive, and it's also where my jack-in-the-pulpit does so well. Tonight I thought I'd give this bit of greenery a little focus. And no, we don't have an exotic fern that is also flowering - one of the small clumps of spring flowers has found its way over here and I thought it added a nice touch to the green.

You have an amazing eye for detail, for the finer things in life Rick. I love these photos and you're so right, the flower in the first one really adds a lot to the top photo. Awesome shooting!
Beautiful shades of green,Rick ! The white flower is definitely a bonus !! :)
The first shot is well composed and has some symmetry in it. Love the flowers growing inside it.
Great capture!
The first one is a hit. The repeating patterns of the ferns draws attention to the delicate flowers. Nicely done!
Ohh I love the one of the mist (foggy lens) it's amazing.
The birds are to cool and you've done great shots on them, only by lens not by gun. ;-)))
And this fern is like the ones we have in our garden but I do love the most the white little flowers it's holding tenderly.
Happy weekend my friend.
Hugs Dagmar
Love the garden shots, Rick ... many of my favorites!
I have to echo what Karen said. That is a really nice shot. I will add that you may want to experiment with putting the little flowers off center some to see if you like the composition better.
Shot one looks really neat!

being guarded by ferns ... little beauties!
What beautiful ferns you have there Rick Another hidden treasure in your backyard..thanks for sharing once again! Those little flowers are terribly cute...What are they?
@darlin - thanks for your compliments Darlene. I'm still working on 'seeing' - a little better each day - in God's great creation.
@bonifer - thank you. Maybe that little flower was seeking shelter.
@M. Hassan - thank you M - I was hoping to get symmetry from the patterns of the leaves with the white in the centre.
@Karen - thank you Karen.
Love, love LOVE the top shot. I like the bottom one too; I am actually partial to leafy shots without any particular focal zone. But that top one is really magnificent, with the framing and the different colours that lead your eye right down the center!
@Barefoot from Heaven - thank you Dagmar. I guess those little flowers felt that the fern could use 'a little colour'. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your nice words. Hope your weekend was as good as mine.
@joey - thank you joey. I come to your blog for the great variety of beauty you have there.
@Scott - thanks for the suggestion. I was trying to achieve symmetry, with the flower in the middle, so in this case I knowingly 'violated' the rule of thirds.
@Photog Ave - thanks Avery!
@S. Etole - yes they sure are. They 'crept' over here by themselves, probably to keep the ferns company.
@Katherine - thank you Katherine. I 'liberated' these ferns from wetlands near our place a few years ago; they struggled a bit at first but now have adapted quite well. I love the intricate pattern of their leaves. I really can't remember what these little flowers are called - I have them in white, red, and pink. Maybe I'll post them in the hopes that someone can identify them.
@Krista - thanks Krista! *blush* I liked the patterns of each of the stems & leaves in that second shot. If you look closely, you'll see that my (intended) focal point was the centre of the fern about 1/3 down and 1/3 in from the right side of the photo.
Great patterns. I want to dive into that first photo; I suspect I'd end up in a parallel universe...
@Jeanne Klaver - ha ha, you might. I think I saw a movie about a parallel universe once - can't remember what it was called.
