No, I'm not starting a new theme to compete with Scott's Sunset Sunday. It's just that the irises have been beckoning me these last few days to immortalize them (well, at least take their photo) before they fade away again. So I went out today to various places - around the pond (some irises thrive in shallow water near the edge), and in the garden. It was a little breezy and as I waited out the occasional gusts I was rewarded with the fragrance of the irises wafting about.

And for Sunset Sunday I have the following photo, shot when we were away a couple of weeks ago:

Oh wow Rick these photos are simply beautiful! How beautiful are those iris's... thanks for posting them.
Hope you had a great weekend.
Those iris' are gorgeous!! I wish that my camera could zoom in and focus so well!!! OUrs haven't opened yet!
@Katherine - thank you; they are such wonderful creations and smell so good! My weekend was great - hope yours was getting healthier, and hope your week goes much better.
Those are absolutely beautiful. I love that second flower especially. What a gorgeous flower, and perfect photo of it. Hey, and thanks for playing along with Sunset Sunday, that is a great sunset with the silhouettes of the trees in the foreground.
@Julia - thanks Julia; use the macro setting on your camera and get as close as you can while the image remains in focus - your shots have been very good!
@Scott - thank you Scott! I was thinking specifically of your Sunset Sunday a few weeks ago when we were away - made and kept a few shots I could use :)
Wow, fantastic shots of the Iris's (is that proper for the plural of an iris? hmmmm). I especially love the first photo, the close up is amazing! You have sunshine there? I'm darn near jealous and ready to move to someplace where the sun shines! lol
Nice sunset as well, no sunsets here lately... it's been to gray and cloudy to see much of anything after ten.
Beautiful work! Really like 1 and the neon green in 3. I love taking pictures of Irises.

@darlin - thank you Darlene. (I think it's irises ...). We had 'broken skies' i.e. clouds, sun breaking through, then cloud cover. It looked like it would get darker so I shot in mid-afternoon while there was light. Trade you some sun for some of your rain - pretty dry here (don't send snow tho' :)
@Photog Ave - thanks Avery - a nice bit of light coming in behind the irises lit things up nicely. I like shooting irises too - they look pretty cool. Have a great week - school must be done soon.
Wow, all of the photos deserve 5 Stars actually, the vivid colors, the vibrant atmosphere, the amazing soft bouquets and etc . . .
Greetz,
Joseph
@CarreraCaballo - thank you Joseph; have a great week!
Breathtaking!
This post is made of happy. I am loving all of the different and beautiful colours, as well as the crisp, clean lines you've captured in the irises. Irises and pansies are my favourite flowers... do you have any pansies in your yard?
Ah, tis funny but Ive been shooting flag Irises too today, I'll post them later.
You certainly have the knack to get the best out of them Rick, and a super sunset to boot.
Beautiful, artistic photography, Rick! Awesome sunset pic!
Beauties Rick! That last shot of the Iris is Stunning! WOW!
Lovely iris - brilliant color, love the spring green background. I totally missed mine! Too many trips to Moab!
@Jeanne Klaver - thank you Jeanne!
@Krista - thank you Krista. There are so many amazing flowers - my favourite is whatever I happen to be shooting that day! :-)
And yes, I also have pansies - just haven't put them up to the lens yet.
@imac - what a coincidence - I look forward to seeing yours! Thanks mac.
@cindyzlogic - thanks for your kind words Cindy; glad you enjoyed them.
@Kerri - I think photos always turn out better when you're 'in the mood', and I had a lot of fun making these. Thanks Kerri!
