(Day 185) Powerful Pink!

A few years ago, friends of ours gave us some perennials. I'm sure they told us the names of the plants - some of them I knew, others I didn't. Today I don't remember most of them (did I tell you that I have a great memory ... but it's short!). However, there is one that I did remember because my son has some at his place and he asked me recently what it was called - astilbe.

I was making some shots of my grandson this afternoon and we happened to be sitting near these, so I focused on the astilbes and let the flowers fill the frame - I was surprised at the resulting explosion of colour.

And since it's also Sunset Sunday (see Scott's blog) I'm posting a contribution, taken the evening of our return from vacation just over a week ago.

I like that pink fluffy flower...it reminds me of these magic gardens you can buy from the National Geographic Shop. And your sunset...well, it's beautiful! I never weary of sunrise & sunset shots...just magical.
You asked me how cold, cold is in Brisbane. Well, it wouldn't be as cold as it gets there in winter but it is definitely cold enough for me. The mornings, evenings & nights are cold getting down to as low as 4°C but the days warm up to about 19°C.

Rick the Astilbe are beautiful! It's going to be nice to see mine in full bloom, they've only just begun.

Astounding sunset! The colors are magnificent.

Have an awesome week!

Goodmorning Rick, thanks for your comment the other day. To your quiestion about what lens I used it was the APO Macro 180 mm F3.5 EX DG. Kee, now you smile??? I'm such a dummy when it comes to long weird names like this. well it's called the macro 180 to keep it simple and it's from canon. If ONLY it was mine....but I just had fun borrowing it from the photoshop that evening...duh if only I could have runaway with it couse it's a beauty. Oh and it only cost 800,-- euro's over here. Find out what it will cost me in Canada and I might fly over to buy it there if it's less money.

But....why do you need a lens like this you make beauties with your macro lens. Like the one above, it's gorgeous.

Oh and do you use a tripod when you go out and take these wonderful sunsets?
Hugs for now
Oh and my week didn't start well my youngest has a heavy astma attac...so cross your fingers the weather will lay down and things turn out better for him soon.
See you.Dag

@S. Etole - thank you Susan! Hope your week is a good one.

@Katherine - well, I've heard of magic mushrooms, bit not entire magic gardens ;-) I'm with you on the sunsets - I don't tire of them either.

If our winter temperature range was 4C - 19C, I'd be quite happy :) However, I know we all get acclimatized, so 4C could feel cold - may your days, at least, remain at 19C - have a great week!

@darlin - thank you. The nice thing about you living 'up north' is that we get to see all the flowers a second time, when you post them. Hope your week goes well.

This is one very colorful post. That number one post is the definition of HOT pink and those orange skies are phenomenal! Thanks for playing along on Sunset Sunday.

As usual, you came up with 2 dynamic photos. The flower shot is awesome. I love how the lowers morphed with the beautiful background.

@Barefoot from Heaven - (blogger hiccupped and deleted an earlier comment I had posted ..)

I couldn't find this lens (it's a Sigma), but I found a 150mm macro for $940 - so I assume this one is even nore :( It took lovely photos though. I have a Canon 60mm macro that I really like, and use. The flower shot in this post was made using my Canon 70-200mm - it's not a macro but does help make beautiful photos!

For sunsets I use a tripod if the shutter speed will be less than 1/50 sec, unless I can prop my hand or arm against something.

I sure hope your weather improves so your son's asthma will also improve - then you'll have a much better week I'm sure.

Take care Dag.
