(Day 238) Farm country
We live in a rural area, about 2 km/1.5 mile outside the nearest village (yes, it has a general store), and about 25 km/15 miles from the nearest town. As with all locations, I suppose, there are pros and cons, and there are people who love living in the countryside and those who don't. A couple of the many things we like about rural living is the spaciousness and lack of traffic. It still takes lots of land to produce the food people need, whether veggies or meat. I took a short ride this afternoon and captured a few images.

My husband and I would love to live somewhere as open and as beautiful as what you've shown in these wonderful photos! There is great depth in the first 3 photos, especially the one with the road..sensational! Have a great day Rick!

these are wonderful...i live in the midwest of the united states where there are lots of farms but they are disappearing~ being replaced by more malls and walmarts. i hate to see the land being stripped away.
i have my eye on a farm house myself that i dream of owning. we can always dream :)

@Katherine - thank you Katherine. I think there's beauty all around us, wherever we live - you've shown us the beauty around your place too. Sometimes a change of scenery is nice (which is what vacations are for !).
That stretch of road is perfectly flat and straight for about 2km - I use it on occasion to remove any carbon from my car's engine ;-)
@chasity - yes, I've seen the same happen in other places where we've lived - very sad to see that being called 'progress'.
I'll never say never, but it looks like the area where we now live will be immune from that sort of development for quite some time. Unfortunately there's not much here holding young people either and they have to move to bigger centres to find work.

I think the blogger community is a microcosm of the larger human community - there are many good, 'normal' people out there ready to pitch in however they can where there's a need. Many of them will keep lifting you, Shauna, and your families up to the great Healer and Comforter.

I prefer rural towns, too... but like you say, there is more work in the larger cities. When I travel for work, I always try to work in the smaller towns, though now I'm living in a city of 60,000. I once lived in a town w/ a population of 2 thousand in Oregon & I loved it. Where I'm originally from (San Diego, Ca) the pop was over 2 million when I left... though I grew up in the outskirts (when there were outskirts...) in a town of about 5 thousand.
I especially love the cow and bird, anything goes in the country! You're photos are priceless, I feel as though I'm driving down that back road and know exactly where it leads to even though I've never traveled that road before!
I love the General Stores, they have everything one needs in a pinch. Is there also a Sears outlet in the general store? This is where the wants get met, that or a trip to town or the city. Ahhh the simple life. Can you take a photo of the General Store one day Rick? I'd love to see it.

I just don't know where you get the time to post so many interesting good photos day after day. I love the B&W on the farm and the bird on the cow is awesome. I would even call that one Phun.

Rick, these are all amazzzzzing photos. How you got that bird to pose on the nose of that cow is shocking. Love the black and whites too. Barn is wonderful.
It looks as though those clouds are coming in for a landing ... and that bird seems quite at home.
@becky - thanks Becky; I try not to take the beauty for granted. Sounds like you've lived in all sorts of interesting places. I grew up primarily in small towns and only go to the 'big city' if I absolutely must. Our nearest village has about 500 people, nearest town about 22,000 - plenty big enough for me !

@darlin - LOL - I stopped at the side of the road and spotted 2 birds on this cow! I thought I was stealthy in my approach but one of them flew off before I made the shot. The cow didn't mind at all - likely a symbiotic relationship where the bird gets to eat the bugs bugging the cow ;-)
Yep - our general store has it all - but no Sears section. I'll see if I can get a shot there sometime.

@Scott - thank you Scott! My wife calls it an obsession, I just call it a passion. Some days I get some shots that I like, fairly quickly - other days I'm bereft of ideas until something seems to come up. This 365 business is not for the easily-deterred!

It has a small river, lots of vineyards, forest, an abbey and some castles. During my childhood, I spend most of the time with my grandmother in the countryside. That’s why I love this way of living, with animals and fields. Very nice, your picture with the cow and the other small cohabiter. I love also the barn, there are so many wonderful place on earth.

WOW! There are so many things I love about these photographs! i LOVE that they are taken in farm country. I would live in farm country, if I could! I love the straight line of the horizon. I love the bright colours and the black and white. Both were really great choices. AND I love the cow and the bird. this post was obviously a winner with me. LOL!
