(Day 120) On a roll

Does this ever happen to you ? You get in that mood to give your camera a good workout and you see wonderful things to photograph. Before you know it you're on a roll and you don't even remember what time it is - unless you're racing against available light, that is.

Well it was like that today. I was working in the garden recovering part of a flower bed that the crab grass had started to make their own. The wind had calmed down and I noticed some tulips that were begging to have their picture taken. I had to make a tough choice - continue digging out crab grass, or take a few shots. I figured that the crab grass could probably wait a little longer but the wind might not. Reluctantly (!) I put down the garden fork and got the camera. One flower lead to another, of course, so I couldn't just post the tulip - the others were pleading just as much for a little 'exposure'.

Here are a few, then. Now, where did I leave that garden fork ?

These are so awesome, Rick! I can tell how hard it was for you to put down the chores and pick up the camera. ;o) That (loss of time/space continuum) happens to me pretty much any time I pick up my camera! :o)

I really love the second shot, the colour, light and textures all mixed together are really easy on my eyes.

Have a great evening and a wonderful weekend!

We are blessed by the choice you made ... the trillium (?) is my favorite.

Wow! from what I see, the beauty of the shots and those of the flowers were worth going on and on forever. I'm sure I would have done the same.. Most flowers don't live long and so, you have to capture the shot while it lasts.

I must sincerely say, I love every single photo you posted and I'm sure I'll love all the ones you didn't post.

Goed gedaan vriend!

@Krista - thank you Krista; those were probably rhetorical questions for most photographers :) Have a great evening and weekend too!

@S. Etole - thanks Susan; I appreciate your comments. Yes, that was a trillium in our backyard - one of my favourites too (but then, I have so many :)

@M. Hassan - dank u wel M - ik heb er veel plezier van gehad. I agree that with flowers the moment needs to be captured. Thank you for your kind words.

That's sure a good roll to be on. Nice shots every one. When I bought my DSLR a plopped now a nice chunk of change for a macro lens to go with it, with just such shots in mind.

Rick said...

@Scott - thanks Scott. I imagine you were on a similar roll in Yellowstone! Macro is wonderful.

I am like this every single day!
Nice 'exposure' comment by the way ;)

Your tulip is a gorgeous color!
I love number 2! It almost looks neon and reminds me of Arizona for some reason.

Glad you decided to put down the fork!

Rick amazing photos, what type of a flower is the bottom one? It's so pretty and shot beautifully. The fork.. I suggest that next time you take a photo of that when you lie it down, you won't lose it that way! :-)

Have a fantastic weekend!

@Photog Ave - thanks Avery - and nice catch on my little phun pun ;) I'm glad I put the fork down too - didn't pick it up again for quite a while.

Rick said...

@darlin - thank you. That bottom one is a trillium - provincial flower of Ontario - and in my backyard yet! LOL re: the fork - if I take a macro of it I still won't be able to find it! :)

You have a great weekend too!

Really is a tough decision, weeding....taking pictures. You made the right choice. Spring time photography should always win!

Well Rick... I totally get it...when nature starts begging you to take it's photo...you just have to do it!! The photos are amazing & the objects of your attention are absolutely glorious! You have so many beautiful things to capture right in your own (very huge) back yard!

I'd say you had a most productive day, Rick! Great shots that might not be there the next time you look ... yes, time evaporates when I'm behind the lens too. Happy May shooting!

Rick said...

@Karen - LOL - yes, such a difficult decision! I agree wholeheartedly!

Rick said...

@cata - thank you; sometimes decisions are so tough! :)

@Kerri - thank you - I was glad too :)

@Katherine - it's nature's siren song - just can't resist it! Yes - never far to go as long as I keep my eyes 'open'. Thank you.

Rick said...

@Julia - hi and thanks for stopping by to look and comment. I like that one too - its head is buried and one antennae seems to be missing.

Rick said...

@Riet - dank u wel Riet. Ik kom ook zo weer op bezoek.

Rick said...

@joey - thank you joey. What a beautiful creation we can get 'lost' in with our cameras! Hope your May is also very 'productive' :)

I like that "Natures Siren Song"... theres a title for your (yet to be printed) book of photography!!! :) You could do it you know!!

Rick said...

@Katherine - thanks for the vote of confidence Katherine! Maybe I'll ask you to write a poem of introduction for "Nature's Siren Song" :)
