Beach beauty

Now you might have thought from the title that I'd been shooting some of the wildlife that frequents the beaches here during spring break. Sorry - wrong blog. No, I'd noticed these beauties on a number of previous walks along the beach and today I had the opportunity to make a few shots while the ladies went shopping (yes, I know - another difficult decision).

These are named helianthus debilis, but are more commonly known as dune sunflowers. They bloom year round and are drought and salt tolerant. As you can see from this shot, I think they must also be sand tolerant - these were growing near a pathway and likely receive a regular spray of sand from kids running by.

Well dang, but I guess this will have to do as a backup. Actually very nice.

haha...tough decision hey?
(Hmmm...I think I would have picked where you were over the trip shopping. Shopping and I don't mix!)

Those are super pretty....and love the sand sprinkles. Much better than ice and snow sprinkles!!!

WOW! I WANT SPRING! lol This is one beautiful flower and what a fantastic shot Rick, the colors and lighting are your usual perfect and the sprinkles of sand makes it look a wee bit magical. Perfect in every way.

Did you use a filter for this one? I've noticed that you take a lot of shots with the 70-200mm. I've been thinking of one of these lenses for quite some time, it appears that you can get both phenomenal close ups, awesome macro shots as well as amazing distance photos. I still have on my list the F1.4 50mm as well... sigh, one more year!

Choices eh? One day why not follow the ladies and take photos of them shopping? LOL I can see it now, you being chased out of the shops!

Have a fantastic Tuesday Rick!

We have some growing in our yard. (Although we lost some during the near freeze this winter.) I love their sunny faces : )

Thank you, Ruth - both kinds are wild and found along the beach, but there the similarity ends !

Thanks Michelle !

Thank you, Scott - I didn't need a model release for these either ;-)

LOL Dawn - sometimes I get dragged kicking and (almost) screaming to go shopping ... BTW - I did like your spring flower shots, although I'm sure you would have much preferred them in January !

Thank you Darlene - these really brighten up the dunes near the beach. No, I don't have any filters for my 70-200mm lens - the diameter is 77mm and my other filters don't fit. It is a very versatile lens (add very expensive in the same sentence) and I have a 2x extender for it which transforms it to a 140-400mm lens (but cuts the light in half to f5.6). As for photos of the ladies shopping ... mmm ... NO ! ;-) Hope your week is warming up !

Thank you Magda. Thanks for your visit !

Thanks for visiting and leaving a lovely comment, Betty.

You're lucky, Leslie - they look great in bunches on the dunes.
