(Day 80) Just remember and say thank you

On the eastern outskirts of the village of Lyn, Ontario stands the Veterans Memorial, overlooking Lyn Cemetery. What is especially notable about the memorial, dedicated in 2006, is that it incorporates the original millstone from the Lyn Mill (see Day 79 post).

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

"For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)

Very nice memorial to the vets. I'm not sure I get the significance on including the millstone, but it gives people something else to appreciate at the location. Great angle on the shot. I like that it has the front of the memorial and some gravestones in the back.

@Scott - thank you. I mentioned the millstone since it provides a link back to the past, just as this memorial does, and is significant for the people of Lyn - veterans and early settlers are buried in this cemetery.

Excellent post Rick, lest we forget.

I think that the capture here is amazing, you have a keen eye for detail. The monument in the foreground and the graves in the background give this photo depth and puts a real message out there.

Wow, I just read this! I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing Rick! I am going to "borrow" this quote from you if you don't mind.

@darlin (I was just signing off when I saw your comments) - thank you for the feedback. As for the quote, since I "borrowed" it from Ansel Adams, if he doesn't mind, I sure won't! :)

Beautiful shot Rick, and a poignant message.

Thanks is due, indeed! Our country is the best place to live thanks to those veterans.

@Krista - thank you. It is indeed the best place to live which is why so many people want to come here. It's especially important that our young people are taught about the veterans' sacrifices, and that we need to guard our freedom.

I love a good cemetery shot. And if we are honoring "the fallen" that is even better.
