Another world

In a bit of a departure from my 'usual' subjects, I plan on providing a small selection of shots made in a very unique city in Canada, one with much historical significance. It was the site of many clashes for supremacy between the French and British Empires. That place is Quebec City, which celebrated the 400th year of its founding in 2008. Many buildings from the early days have been preserved in the 'old city'. The architecture is unlike any found elsewhere in Canada. We visited here for a weekend recently, but a much longer stay is required to truly see what it offers.

I would love to visit there someday and its on my list.. Stunning view. Love the window boxes. Windows say so much and with the added beauty they speak volumes.

I had an email once that had photos of a street much like this in Quebec in the middle of winter with all the windows glowing and snow everywhere. My sister told me it actually looks like that.
This is a great shot. The history calls out to me. I can almost see the people circa 1840 walking down the road.

Oh Wow.. I agree!! It looks like such a pretty place to visit. It reminds me a little of places I've seen only in movies... Rick if you hadn't have told us it was Qebec, I would have easily mistaken this photo to have been taken in a quaint street of a small European Town.. I love it & would very much love to visit!

The place sure looks inviting. The stone facade is beautiful with hanging floral baskets adding colour. Great capture!

The history alone would have me reeled in, hook, line, & sinker... but it also looks very beautiful! =)

A nice shot and I like the touches of color on the building...the shutters, window boxes, etc...

It would be a memorable trip, Lisa. There are many streets like this, with colourful doors, shutters, flower boxes ... simply a beautiful place.

Hi Lori - thanks for visiting and your nice comment. I've also seen photos before and now experienced it - and it truly looks like that - very quaint.

Thanks Katherine - this is another one I can cross from my bucket list (although I could visit there again). The old part of the city was built in the 1600's primarily by the French, and is the only walled city in North America north of Mexico. You should have it on your bucket list - it's worth it !

@Ever Green Tree - thank you; you would quickly feel at home there - they cater very well to tourists.

Hi teca - thank you ! I send warm beijos your way to warm you in your winter season. Have a wonderful weekend !

Obrigado, Su ! Yes, this city is truly a treasure and brings one back to the times of several centuries ago. Add it to your list of places to visit ! Nice to hear from you again too.

I'm similarly hooked by the history of places (which influences our travel plans ;-) And it is also very picturesque ! Thanks Tricia !

I agree Elizabeth - although each place in this wonderful creation seems to have its own particular beauty.

Dank je wel, Riet. 't lijkt meer op Frankrijk in de 17e eeuw. Deze straat is in de oude stad - een mooi gezicht hier in Canada - zie je nergens anders.

Thank you, Fábio !

Thanks Leslie - more coming ;-)

Hi Saz - nice to see you back. This street is in the 'old part' of Quebec City - the rest of the city is quite large, but this old preserved part is very lovely. Thanks.

Thank you Susan - best to add it to your list of places to visit.

Thank you Evanir. This old part of Quebec City is 400 years old and looks much like it did then - it is a beautiful place to spend some time. Many beijos for you, and a wonderful weekend.

Thanks Farmchick - that really caught my eye too.

Obrigado Soraia !

This is absolutely beautiful Rick, thank you for sharing a piece of Quebec with us. I've never been there and I'm not sure if I'd ever go visit, my French is a bit rusty... in other words I don't speak it at all! lol Enjoy your Sunday!

You'd do just fine there Darlene - my spoken French is very rusty (I`d need several drinks in me before I'd try it out in public ;-) - everyone does quite well in English. You`d love it there !

Thank you Magda - make plans to visit Canada - so much to see and enjoy - a few months would be a good start !
