Justifiable 'rub-out'

Our house was a little fuller this past weekend. Our 3 daughters made the 450km/280mi trek to deliver on a Mother's Day promise to help us paint a large part of the interior of our house. It's amazing how quickly 2 coats of paint can be applied when 5 people are armed with brush and roller !

The house was also made fuller when one of our daughters brought her 2 dogs, and one of the dogs unwittingly brought along a 'friend'. The story didn't have a completely happy ending, however - after shooting the friend, the task of disposing of the body fell to me. I hope you'll agree from the evidence that it was completely justifiable. My daughters and wife were grossed out.

Now before you go and look at the photos, I need to write you all a heartfelt THANK YOU ! Whilst I was trying to get my internet and blogger issues sorted out, a few more people snuck in here to become followers - and I didn't have the opportunity to mark the occasion of no. 200 joining ! I want to thank each and everyone who has taken the time to come and look here - I consider you all friends (and fellow photography addicts). I want to thank everyone who leaves a comment - I look forward to reading them daily. I only have one regret - there are not enough hours in the day or week (and especially not the way my internet has been 'working') to visit each of my follower's sites.

(both shots made with a 60mm lens at f9.0, 1/10 sec, ISO800)

Oh my goodness....oh my goodness. So disgusting. This is the first picture yo have ever taken that has made me a bit squeamish;);)
So glad there is the word "death" in the label:)))

Glad you also got your house painted and you got to see family!

I completely get the visiting/commenting ordeal. It's been so tricky lately...especially as the weather warms up and yard and kids demand more time away from the computer!
Now....hope you have a great evening/day...and I need to go check my home for ticks. I'm feeling a bit crawly.....

That one certainly needed to be put away.YIKES!!!

THIS IS COMPLETELY DISGUSTING! I HATE ticks! We don't seem to have a problem with them down here, but I grew up in the Illinois woods and so I have not-so-fond memories of salting them out of our hair when we were unfortunate enough to get "stuck" with one. We also had big leeches in the pond we swam in...

ugh...i was hoping not to have to see this creature again....but I just had to come tell you I was GOING to post the time I wanted for my race...but couldn't do it for that exact reason;)) I'm hoping I can state my goal AND my actual time all in the same breath next week;);)
Thanks:)

UGH!! Rick, is that a tick?!!
When I first glanced, I thought it was a withered grape... until I was it's legs. Eeeeeeew!!!!
Our dogs used to bring those home when I was a kid. They totally gross me out. One time on an evening hike, I had one drop on me- I totally wigged out... doing a full body "tick get off me dance!" I am quite certain I looked like a woman gone mad!
Yuckers.
Yes, blogging takes a lot of time... the photo editing, the writing, the visiting. But it is fun though! I really feel I need to retire so I can fit in all this fun stuff! Seriously!

Ticks do not disgust me but I know it can be single dangerous if they enter the skin, causing serious infections and they should be removed with a scalpel.
The Internet does whims also here, often I am unable to access some blogs, and friends think that I don't step to say hello.
A big kiss

Ooooh, how yum. I hate ticks with a passion! I feel for any doggy that has to suffer with one! D:

You got some pretty good shots of it though!

I'm always happy to check out your photo's and comment. (: They help to intrigue me, and I'm glad that I have fellow photographers that I can talk to!

I just hope one day I'm as good a photographer as you are.

LOL Dawn - you know I couldn't pass up an opportunity like that ! Look at it as an educational opportunity ;-) This one had obviously been feasting for some time - I got her off with a special tick remover tool - head and all, as you can see. As for keeping up with the blog - I agree that there's lots of competition for time. Hope your search came up empty btw ;-) Ah - I was just funnin' ya about your time for the 1/2 - we'll see next week; good luck !

I can assure you, Ruth, that this particular one won't be doing any more feeding !

Now Leslie - leeches creep me out more than ticks - we have a few in our pond but it's too small to swim in (fortunately). And the good news is that this one is no longer with us.

I'm with you, Marty - not my favourite either. I send you some pleasant, tick-free bisous ! ;-)

Obrigado Fábio ! Thank you. I made sure to keep my distance from it, but I don't think it could jump ;-)

One of my girls said it looked like a withered grape too, Becky - LOL ! But when you think that those legs crawl over your skin and that mouth pierces it to get at you, I agree with "yuckers" ! Oh - I got a great visual from your description of your tick dance ;-) You're right about taking the time for the fun stuff - blogging (as long as my internet cooperates).

Thank you, Elizabeth. Yep - this one was dispatched (I'll spare the details ;-)

Hello Minu - yes, ticks can create serious problems. We have a special little tool to remove them - head and all ! Thank you for visiting - ciao !!

Hi Tricia - just to be sure there could be no comeback, the body was sealed in a ziploc bag ;-) You're very welcome - it's always a pleasure to visit your blog, and I always appreciate your comments (and humor !).

Thanks for clarifying, Stewart ;-) Unfortunately there's no cable service of any sort where I live (on the edge of civilization) - we're on a fixed wireless network - marginally better than dial-up !

Agree with you on the ticks, Saz, although 'yum' never crossed my mind ;-) Thank you - I thought it important to show the tick details. You're doing quite well with your photography and I enjoy coming by for a visit. Keep it up !

LOL Susan ! I think they're a universal affliction !

All in the name of advancing the science, Cat ;-) Now, please - no nightmares !

Yuck, just yuck! lol I'd much rather see the new paint and lucky you to have five people painting. Please send them all this way if they get the urge to paint again, I'm still not finished! It's getting closer but not there yet.

Congrats on 200! You've come a long way in a short period of time Rick and rightfully so, your photos are some of the best I've seen on Blogger! And I totally hear you in regards to time constraints, I may have to give up blogging for a while but I'm trying not to. I have so much to do it's not even funny! One thing at a time and I hope to meet deadlines... this is my biggest concern right now. One more year, just one more year!

Enjoy!

Ha ha Darlene - this was SO much more interesting than new paint ! I think my kids (and we) are all painted out for a while ;-) Thanks for your kind words - I'd never have known blogging could be as rewarding; there are such great people out there, you among the best ! It does take some commitment but the rewards are worth it. Enjoy your weekend at the farm !

LOL - thank you Andrew. That was my though too ;-) I hope your weekend is also very enjoyable.

Thank you, Magda !

Ha ha, Jeanne - this one sure was, but is no more !

Rick about a year after I was into blogging I came across an article which said blogging can be therapeutic, I laughed! I'd already figured that out. I too love the connections and I love seeing the world through others lenses. I don't have time to blog, I MAKE TIME to blog... after all it is therapeutic! :-) Heck I never would have "met" you if I didn't blog, nor Dawn, Joesph, M, LL or the many others I chat with here, all of you are amazing people I feel I can call friends. I've also learned so much through blogging. Yup, blogging is the best thing since sliced bread I tell ya! ;-) You'll all get me to this degree yet...one blog post at a time.

[I'm catching up on comments while my internet is still 'working']

I agree about the therapeutic effects - although not when it takes 5-10 minutes to load a blog; then it's extremely frustrating. My internet connection in Florida was blazingly fast which made blogging a joy. I've met lots of interesting people via blogging, including you, Joseph, Scott and so many others, around the world. I know you'll get that degree with your level of determination.

Thank you Rick... and if you ever need someone to talk to about your internet issues I could use some practice with my counseling skills! LOL I sure hope that something works for you soon with this internet problem. I must say you sure have a lot of determination and patience, I'm not so sure my computer would still be in one piece without having my internet working for so long!

Have a great weekend.
