When is a weed not a weed ? Dumb question to ask a gardener - "it's always a weed!". But, when you ask a photographer, well, you might get a different answer. With the right lighting and aperture, and when the bokeh works out, that weed might just be considered art, or at least a photo worth posting. As they say - "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

The two photos put together look like fire and ice.
And your second photo looks like it belongs in my 'Winter Morning Browns' post from January.
I think gardeners think weeds are everything that was not purposely planted by their hands. I think weeds are simply flowers that Mother Nature planted.
Great work!
I like the sun spots in the second photo as well.

@Avery - thank you. I had a nice blue sky to shoot that first one against, and I deliberately shot (almost) into the sun to get the flare effect. I agree with you on the weed definition - as long as they don't grow in my garden, of course! :)
Rick, these are awesome! I love the contrast between the two. It's really interesting how different you can make them with just a different shutter speed!
The second one really makes me think of summer and warm temperatures. Soon! :o)
@Krista - now, don't get jealous - it was 16C (61F) here yesterday, sunny, and no wind; I thought I had died and gone to heaven :) We had coffee outside in shirt sleeves!! Keep repeating ... spring is here, spring is here ...
@Krista - oh, the coffee wasn't in our shirt sleeves, but we were ;-)
I love the second picture!! Nice lighting!
@Julia - thank you!
