Real weather forecasters of course have all sorts of modern technical tools to help them make their predictions. But in the days before all this wonderful technology, observant people would watch the sky for signs of pending weather, hence the origin of these folk wisdoms. This afternoon, armed with the knowledge of a pending cold front, we went for a walk with friends while the weather was still cooperative. One of the first signs we noticed of a 'change in the air' was the rapid change from a bright blue sky to the cloud formation below. We managed to get our walk in before these clouds gave way to much darker clouds, accompanied by a driving rain, gusty winds, and much cooler weather.
I did a little research early this evening, and I think these are altocumulus clouds (remember what I'm not). I stand to be corrected by a real expert out there. At any rate, I find clouds to be fascinating harbingers of weather to come.

Im with you on the weather and a sky watcher also. The clouds and how they move seem to tell me of coming weather. The trails you captured means a change or wind for certian and colors in the sky.

Something magical about sky watching...whether you are the weather man or not! (and lately...I think I can forecast the weather just as well as they....it seems they always are a "bit" off;))

Thank you Lisa - I'm not too good at predicting based on clouds - I watch them more because of the fascinating shapes they can produce. And yes, these certainly heralded a change in the weather !

LOL Dag - nee, helemaal geen nat pak ;-) The sunset on the cruise was beautiful - I was the only one who stayed out on the deck. Yes, sunny, but getting quite cool - for Florida - might be down to 2C tonight. brrr.
Clouds are beautiful Marty - I agree (you always do such a nice job of capturing them). We actually did get some rain yesterday and tonight will be quite cool (2C). Merci pour les bisous chauds and I return many warm ones along with lots of sunshine ;-)
I'm with you on the forecasters' capabilities Dawn - they used to provide a 4-day forecast in Calgary which was good for 12 hours. at best. And you're very welcome for the link - glad you enjoyed it.
