(Day 307) Looks like we're in for stormy weather

Since I've never been in Florida at this time of year, I'm really not sure what sort of weather to expect. I do expect it to be a little warmer than back in Ontario. The weatherman here had told us to expect rain this afternoon, however, other than some dark clouds passing to the south of us, we were blessed with continuous sunshine. After dinner we decided to head down to the water to a place called Glover Bight. We were hoping to catch the sunset, and I think a lot of people had the same idea.

I'm sure that the sun did set, but we, along with many others, did not witness it at Glover Bight. Clouds covered the western part of the sky. Further over, to the south, were banks of rather ominous-looking clouds. I think we discovered where the rain was waiting that the weatherman had forecast.

ps - these clouds delivered the weatherman's promise a short while after we got back

There is something so beautiful about Billowing Clouds!
Hope the rain goes away for your day tomorrow!

Sunset or no, the pics are lovely... especially the 2nd one- very dramatic skies! I'm starting to miss the ocean as I haven't seen it in over 4 months! I've actually never been to Florida, but I understand it is very flat! Do you find an adjustment from living out in the country to being around lots of people & traffic?

I agree with Dawn...there's something about billowing clouds that is fascinating. That second shot is tremendous!

I'm loving the black and white! The light on the tops of the clouds just sparkles...sunset or not, you captured nature at her finest.

The sun will do that at times. It's not at all unusual for me to go out expecting a beautiful sunset because of the clouds and then have the sun drop behind them and leave me with a total bust. You, on the other hand, still got some nice shots.

I don't care what anyone says Rick, billowing clouds scare the crap right outta me unless they're in photos. I love the sky blue that I spotted in the right corner of the fist photo and I have this funny feeling that your skies will be filled with an immense of that beautiful color all winter long. What are you going to do for that long out there? Take up new hobbies? Para-sail, sky dive, write a book? :-)

You are so right... waiting for a little

Here in Greece most of the time the weather
is very nice.
Have a sunny next day!

Yes, we are seeing similar cloud formations. Although I'm sure you're hoping for warmth, we are looking forward to a break from the late October heat! Lovely photos here. I especially like the black and white shot.

the water even looks cold.. and that cloud bank is awesome.. enjoy your time there.. Florida is a beautiful place.. strange weather though.. when i was there we had rain on one side of the road .. the other side was dry.. it was like looking at a huge wall of rain that just stayed on one side of the road.. so strange to see..
Have a great day.. and an awesome evening..
you will get that sunset.. I know you will..
hugs

I always love clouds I call them clouds of emotions as they always bring a different feeling to me. Yours a certainly on the verge of being angry and letting go. Hope you are enjoying the warmer climate. WE won't be heading south till latter part of January. You will have time to enjoy lots more sunsets and get up early you might even catch a few sunrises.

Relaxing sea and dock (or whatever, I don't know what's the word in english!); and sooo soft clouds! Wanderful texture.

Alex.

Excellent sky captures!

@Dawn - they're always captivating, aren't they ! But alas, they brought lots more rain today - but we still managed to walk the dog. twice !

@becky - thanks Becky; yes, Florida is quite flat - I think we live at the dizzying elevation of about 8 feet asl (above sea level). We do miss all the open space and quiet, but there are so many interesting things here - especially exotic (to us) trees, plants, flowers, bugs ...

@CherylK - thank you Cheryl ! Enjoy that Denver trip !

@Carolyn Ford - thanks Carolyn; I felt better that I got these even though we didn't get a sunset.

@Scott - yes, it looked to be shaping up to a nice sunset, but I was still happy with the turn of events. Thanks Scott.

@darlin - we used to get scary looking skies in Calgary till we learned it was a chinook arch and posed no danger. I'm not used to the sky here yet - not sure what to expect. I'm going to do some more learning about photography esp. HDR - looks fascinating. Might also try my hand at learning HTML basics. I'm never one to get bored.

@Costea Andrea Mihai - thank you for your visit and comments Costea.

@ju-north - thanks Julia!

@Bitch - thank you Monika; unfortunately we had lots of rain today - but that makes the 'jungle' grow ;-) Yes, the weather in Greece/Rhodes was wonderful - sunshine for each of our 21 days there !

@marty - merci marty. The sun made only a brief appearance today but promised to some back in full force tomorrow. Bisous du soleil pour toi !

@The Whimsical Gardener - thank you Cat !

@Leslie - we've enjoyed the first few days of heat here; looks like your wish for some cooler weather is coming true. I find the storms here magnificent (our dog doesn't). Thanks Leslie.

@CarreraCaballo - thank you Joseph. What a change for you then - we're only an hour north of Naples - hope to go see it in the next few days.

@Hope - I didn't try the water but there was no one swimming. We had a similar experience when we were down here in May - a wicked storm on one side of the causeway while the sun shone on the other side ! Still after that sunset - foiled tonight.

@Leovi - thank you Leovi !

Rick said...

@Here I Am/Carrie - yes, I think they were certainly angry clouds and they dumped all over us as soon as we got home (but luckily not before !). I'm looking forward to more sunsets, but not convinced yet about a sunrise ...

@Alexander DeLarge - thank you Alex. The structure in that photo is a pier but that isn't evident from the photo.

@Farmchick - thanks for visiting, and following !

Hey Rick...anyone that knows me knows that I just love clouds... but that dark ominous cloud in your second photo is a little bit on the creepy side!
Great shots none the less!!

powerful black and white of that cloud bank ...

@Katherine - I think it's the one that delivered the stinging rain and winds; it looked rather nice in a 'creepy' sort of way though. Thanks Katherine !

@chasity - thanks Chas; I'm up for unusual weather - blizzard, thunderstorm ... sometimes the aftermath isn't so pleasant though !

@imac - thank you mac !

@Photog Ave - thanks Avery ! I find b&w to be a bit more dramatic for shots like that.

@S. Etole - thank you Susan !
