(Day 309) The cleanup crew arrives

The storm abated, the skies cleared, and the sun shone again this morning. All in all it looked like another beautiful day shaping up. All the critters that had taken shelter from the driving rain the night before were out again. My wife, who was talking on the phone to get a cable TV issue resolved, suddenly motioned to me to look out the front window. A large flock of ibis (anyone know the plural ?) had descended on the front lawn and were busy feasting on all the worms and bugs that had come out to enjoy the lovely weather. I of course grabbed the camera and sneaked out a side door to grab a few frames.

Wow...they're chickens, with long legs & beaks...tee! hee! hee!
I think the plural would be just as you've written it! The ibis living here in Australia look a little different to these Ibis! Have a great weekend & I hope you get your cable troubles resolved asap!

Great shot Rick! The color of the grass contrasting with the white of the bird is great.

Rick I thought you gave up chicken farming! :-) What a wonderful close up of a unique bird, I've never seen one of these before, as you know we don't get this particular species here in the tundra! lol

How exciting to see birds like that in your very own yard! Aren't you glad your wife can talk on the phone and watch for your next photo op at the same time!? Wonderful!

Nice nature shot; every day that I see your shots I envy you so much for living where you live! Anyway, I can't complain here in Argentina, with so beautiful landscapes, but... that bird on your yard? Whatever. Great shot. Hope you're doing well,

Alex.

I love Ibis. My favorites are the young ones. I love their brown coloring, and the way they get sort of white spots as they mature. Last winter I saw my first young Wood Stork. I've never, ever seen a young one before. He looked like a large cotton ball with eyes. Really cute.

As for the plural, the dictionary said "Ibises" but my bird book says "Ibis."

Great view of their colorful eyes and beaks.

@Katherine - yes, they certainly must be related ! I had to do some research on them - I thought they were only found in/near water. Oh, cable troubles resolved ;-)

@JANE E KIRN - thank you, Jane, I think (was your comment meant for Karen ?).

@Scott - thanks Scott - helps to have a 'spotter' !

Rick said...

@Kyria - thank you Kyria - opportunity 'dropped into my lap' !

@darlin - ha ha, I'll have to go back out and see if they laid any eggs !! I hadn't seen these up close like this before either - I call them Pinocchio birds !

@Carolyn Ford - and they came to ME ! ;-) Yes, I'm very lucky to have such a talented wife - makes my 365 that much easier !

Rick said...

@marty - merci beaucoup marty ! So nice of those birds to drop by to have their photo made ;-) A wonderful weekend for you et plein de bisous !!

@Dawn - thanks Dawn; my wife was doing the sight-seeing, I was doing the capturing ;-)

@Alexander DeLarge - thank you Alex; we're here temporarily or should I say, splitting our time between here and our home in Canada. I think there's beauty wherever we are, and I would love to see Argentina !

Rick said...

@CarreraCaballo - LOL ! Not sure if they eat grass too (maybe they can be trained ?) but we won't have to hire anyone to get rid of bugs !

@Hope - yes, isn't that something !! I hope it happens more often - makes the 365 much easier ! And it was an amazing sight to see 30 or more of them at once. Thanks Hope !

@Leovi - thank you. Have a wonderful weekend !

@Leslie - we have so much to see and experience yet; every new plant, flower, bird, animal is an adventure. Hope you don't tire of seeing things you've seen often.

@S. Etole - thanks Susan; theose beaks are great for foraging - well designed!

@julia - merci Julia; good luck on your 365 - you have beautiful photos !

Rick said...

@imac - right on, mac ! And I would have had to go out and find a subject instead of it finding me !

@Farmchick - thank you; dropped into my lap, so to speak ;-)

OH MY sorry Rick, I did mess up , you were right and how in the world did I do this! Now everyone can see that I was lost today. Apologies. Nice that you have "spotters". I thought I commented on your bird. Wonder where that one is? Sat down and explored your blog. Nice photos. I will be back...

Rick said...

@JANE E KIRN - not to worry Jane ! I've done that myself. Thanks for visiting and hope to see you back.

Julia said...

Very nice of you to get me some pictures of some Florida birds, but only one?

@Julia - you're welcome; I have to save some for another time ;-)
