I recall, when I was young, being told about the man in the moon. I'm sure many people have similar recollections. I don't know what made it seem plausible at the time, but then again children's imaginations usually haven't been blunted or stunted yet by the realities of the world. A lot of things were quite possible for me to believe - and they weren't limited to the tooth fairy, Sinterklaas (Santa Claus), and the sandman (remember him ?). Eventually most of that 'magic' is lost.
I was reminded of that tonight when I looked into the evening sky. I'm old enough to remember the moon landings, but apparently there are people who are convinced that they were faked. Perhaps they still believe in the original man in the moon. I was reminded of this song which you also might remember (no, it's not as old as the moon landings).

Oh yes I remember this song very well & I also remember those wonderful childhood beliefs and how they made me feel inside. I had such a vivid imagination as a little girl that I swore black and blue to my mother that a six foot tall Easter Bunny hopped through my window and visited my bedside. I still remember it like it were a real memory , which obviously it wasn't ... or was it??? Ha ha ha
Have a wonderful day and that is a superb photo Rick of the earths very own night light!
Oh how I love those (true or not) imaginations of childhood.
I still believe in Santa though. For sure!
Have a wonderful new day!!!!
(hehe...my sister doesn't think they landed on the moon...I thought she was the only one;)))))
oh ja lieber Rick, auf der Heimfahrt zurück von Leipzig gestern, streifte mein Blick genau dein Foto, schön, herzliche Grüße Jasmin
Very good this moon, and well framed. To have invented a new flag. Greetings.
What a beautiful post, and absolutely gorgeous shot Rick! Oh, I remember all of these, especially the Sandman. Thank you for the wonderful memory, and I hope you have a beautiful day.
lisa.
beautiful photo
Ah, the man in the moon! I always said, the man ON the moon & would argue the fact that he's not IN the moon, he's ON it! LoL! Mom & dad didn't like to argue w/ me over it, it was aggravating for them! Heheheee
Beautiful shot
Such a stunning capture. I've not shot the moon but recently purchased a tripod. I'm gonna have to give it a go!
ohhhh Rick this one is a real beauty and brings tears into my eyes.... so many dreams I've send to the moon...my best buddy when it comes to secrets. ;-)
And Sinterklaas they never ever could have fooled me since I was 4 I told everybody it was my uncle....so at that point my dad (half german) told me about Santa Claus,...now there my heart went down the drain....loved and believed that fellow (still do, ha).
Het lijkt er zelfs op dat het mannetje van de maan, even naar me glimlacht.
Dank voor je prachtige foto's heeft mijn hard goed gedaan.
Liefs Dag
¡¡Preciosa.!! ¿dónde estaban las estrellas?
Un saludo.
great image ... of whomever!
@Katherine - LOL - that Easter bunny must have brought some very large eggs ! Thanks Katherine - hope your week is going well.
@Dawn - oh those days of innocence ! btw - is your sister a member of the Flat Earth Society ? ;-)
@jasmin - danke Jasmin. Viele Grüße !
@Leovi - thank you Leovi - a new flag - for the moon ! ;-)
@lisa - thank you Lisa - yes, the Sandman was special (psst - I think he still comes around - I have evidence every morning ! ;-)
@CIMPOACA LAURENTIU - thank you !
@Tricia - ha ha, at a child's level the man could be living 'in' the moon, kinda like the old lady in the shoe. But either way, I'm sure I saw him when I was a child ;-) Thanks Tricia !
@The Whimsical Gardener - give it a go Cat - don't forget, it's an extremely bright object. Look forward to seeing your first 'moon shot' !
@Barefoot from Heaven - hi Dag, glad you liked my shot of your fav buddy ;-) And yes, I'm sure he gave you a little glimlach in return for all the secrets you've shared with him ! As for Sinterklaas, it took me till I was about 9 before I realized maybe he wasn't real (was he ?). Thanks Dag - fijne donderdag !
@julia - gracias ! The stars weren't captured because I used a fairly short shutter speed since the moon was very bright. Theywere out, though.
@S. Etole - thank you Susan. An image of a heavenly body ... as it was known.
That song, I don't know where I know it from but it's bringing back some sort of memories. I'm going to have to listen to it again when I'm not so tired, I'm trying to adjust to this crazy time change I think.
Ahhh yes, the man in the moon, then I believed the moon was made of cheese. Do you remember those old radios? I remember when I was quite young I always wanted to get into the back of my grandma's radio and play with the little men in there, you know the ones who were singing? :-) Ahhhh thanks for the trip down memory lane, and to think that one photo of the moon could bring up all of this conversation and jar your childhood memories. A wonderful photo of the moon that is. :-)
Wonderful photo of the moon! Just beautiful.
Wow, what a great shot!! Can you send me this picture so I can use it on my desktop? Thanks dad
The moon landing were not fake. Im sure of it. I watched it on TV in school as a small kid. Very small. Love your moon and I havent heard that song before.
Nice blog
@darlin - whoa, didn't the time get changed DAYS ago ? And you're still adjusting ? jk ;-) Yes, if you let your imagination run for a little while, it's amazing what the mind can conjure up (hence the name of my blog - millemots - 1,000 words). Thanks Darlene.
@Leslie - thank you Leslie.
@Julia - thanks Jules - done !
@Lisa RedWillow - I too watched the landings - and was amazed. I still sometimes stare up at the moon trying to imagine what it must have been like to be up there looking back. Thanks Lisa !
I'm looking at your settings & still not sure how you got such a perfect shot!? Very nice!My moons never turn out that good. Wondering about the time of day/night. I think it was monday or tues when it was just the tiniest sliver... gorgeous!
Yes, the man in the moon...and the nursery rhyme about the cow that jumped over the moon. And I remember the moon landing too. (I was pretty naive though...thought if I used my brother's telescope out in our back yard, I would be able to see the American flag waving on the moon.) Thanks for the memories!
@becky - it was quite dark out when I made the photo - a few hours after sunset. Two key things - I used a tripod and a (relatively) fast shutter speed - the moon is very bright in the dark sky. Thanks Becky - and good luck - I'll look for your 'moon shot' !
@Seedplanter Designs - ah yes, those nursery rhymes and other memories. There's a lot to be said for nostalgia ! As for seeing the flag on the moon, perhaps there's a bigger telescope you could use - maybe the one in Maui.
Thanks for visiting - come again.
