(Day 279) Late bloomer

It's interesting how some plants, like some people, are late bloomers. Even though our dahlias have been blooming for a while, these pink ones, which I received from one of my daughters a few years ago, really put on a show as the days become shorter and cooler.

Today was one of those typical autumn days - some sun in the morning which soon gave way to gray clouds, followed a short time later by drizzle - and the early morning cheeriness turned to dreariness. While looking through the window at the pond to gauge how hard it was drizzling, I saw these pink beauties and hurried out to make some photos. As I've learned, timing is everything, for soon the light drizzle turned into a steady cold rain.

Rick they may indeed be late bloomers but they certainly are very gorgeous & the rain drops that have settled on their petals add to the beauty of this shot. Well done yet again Rick!!
Have a wonderful day :)

Beautiful photos, as always, Rick! Truly, photography is often catching a moment in time that will never be again... my mom & I talk about this... that's why I try to remember to keep my camera in my car, just in case. You never know when a "moment" will arise!
Aye, your title hit home... I am THE late bloomer!

I love dahlias but our season is so short they just start blooming and the frosts come. So I try to stick with early bloomers or something hardy. Yours are a very unusual pink.. You are so right about having to seize the moment. And what a wonderful moment you presented.

@darlin - thanks Darlene *blush*. I've learned so much since I started this 365 thing, but the more I learn, the more I realize there is yet to learn.

@becky - yep - 2 things I've learned (among others) while doing this 365 project - ABC (Always Bring Camera) and carpe diem - seize the day/moment !

btw - late bloomers quite often put on the nicest showing ! ;-)

@Here I Am/Carrie - I know what it's like with a short season - we used to live near Calgary and it was tough to grow dahlias. Thanks Carrie !
