(Day 312) Palm balm

There's something soothing about seeing palm leaves swaying in a light breeze against an azure sky. Ever since I set eyes on such a sight (way back in my youth) when I first visited Florida, that mental image and its connotations has remained with me. The small patch of 'rough' weather (I use the term loosely) we just had, has given way to those clear blue skies and warm temperatures that are key ingredients in the Sunshine State experience.

As the sun was dropping quickly late this afternoon I was compelled to capture a few images.

(All shots made with 70-200mm lens at f7.1 and ISO200, with shutter speeds ranging from 1/250 sec to 1/320 sec.)

Very creatively and well done. I really like the division of the greens and the blues in that top pic.

Just out of curiosity, how long will you be in Florida?

Beautiful shots Rick. I didn't know that palm trees bore fruit, is it edible?

I have a windmill palm and love watching how the fronds move in the breeze. Each frond does more of a twist than a sway, if that makes sense...Great shots as always.

Late afternoon light is the best, isn't it? It transforms the way we see (and record) things. Dawn & dusk... my 2 favorite times of the day for photography. The first is my fave.

@Scott - missed replying to your question - we plan on being here till a week before Christmas and returning some time in Jan.

@darlin - thanks; yes, apparently the fruit is edible - maybe I'll have to ask the neighbour for some to try ;-)

@ju-north - thanks Julia; it was an incredible day !

@Global Homemaker - thank you Jody - those are the only 'fall' colours I've seen here.

@Leovi - thank you Leovi.

@bicocacolors - thank you Elena; the sky was as pure blue as could be !

@marty - yes, I'm very lucky marty - and I'm happy to share the beauty ! But you still seem to find beauty around you even when the wind blows and it rains ! Bisous from the land of blue and green ;-)

@The Whimsical Gardener - yes, I've seen that too when the wind blows a little harder; thank you Cat - I love palm trees (we're looking to add a few more).

@becky - yes, the light certainly is gorgeous then (I usually don't see that early morning light - leave that up to my wife ;-)

@teca - thank you for your kind words teca - ALL of them; many beijos in return, and a lovely week !

@CarreraCaballo - thank you Joseph; I too love the contrast of those two colours.

@Katherine - we feel like we're in a different kind of paradise here - all the plants and flowers and trees appear exotic to us; we're going to add a few more shortly (I'd like to buy one of everything ! ;-) Thanks Katherine.

Rick, you know your neighbors already? Wow, it sounds friendly there. And please do let me know what the fruits like if and when you try it, I'm curious.

Rick said...

@darlin - actually we have met some neighbours and they are friendly; just haven't met the neighbours who have the palm trees with the fruit - they may be seasonal and not here right now. I'll see if I can get some fruit though.
